Government Polytechnic College, Budgam was established in 2012 under Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Setting up of new Polytechnics” by Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, with the aim of having polytechnics in every district of Jammu & Kashmir State. The institution is administered by the Directorate of Technical Education and affiliated to J&K State Board of Technical Education. The college is located in the picturesque locales of Nagam, Budgam over an area of 7.5 acres.
