SANKAR INSTITUTE OF POLYTECHNIC was established in July 1958 by Sri S.N.N. Sankaralinga Iyer, a well-known Philanthropist, missionary and Industrialist and Shri TS Narayanaswamy, Industrialist and former Sheriff of Madras, who were the founders of The India Cements Ltd.. The Chief minister of Madras, Shri K.Kamaraj, inaugurated the Polytechnic lighting the kuthuvilakku. The polytechnic was granted Academic autonomy by the Government of Tamilnadu in 1993 in recognition of its quality of education
