Within the framework of integrated water resource management at the basin scale, students acquire knowledge of tools and techniques and learn ways to apply them to generate viable and sustainable solutions.

Under the Water Engineering and Management curriculum, students are exposed to Agricultural Water, urban water, coastal river, Water Resources, Risk Management and extreme event. The curriculum is designed to allow students to choose their specializations based on their interests. The introductory courses on hydrodynamics, watershed technology, water resources and water resources management, and concepts in water modelling form the solid foundation for advanced courses. A primary focus of these courses is on tools and techniques used in resource planning and management and lab and field practices.

What is Water Engineering and Management?

The field of water resources engineering is concerned with studying and managing techniques, facilities, and equipment used to collect and preserve one of life's most abundant resources. It includes everything that has to do with water, like rivers, dams, and water treatment plants.

Students studying agricultural water management learn the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and develop agricultural water resources. Irrigation and drainage projects, land conservation programs, and other multi-disciplinary issues are addressed in planning, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance. Research projects in the area address irrigation and drainage system management, crop production systems, erosion control, land use and land conservation, and watershed management.

Eligibility and Career in Water Engineering and Management 

Engineering or technology-related degrees are usually required for employment in this field. Still, some engineers hold qualifications in disciplines such as math, physics, or computer science. Clean water, wastewater disposal, and flood prevention are the responsibilities of a water engineer. Repairing, maintaining, and building new structures that control water resources are among the tasks of a contractor. 

Candidate must complete their 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects and receive a minimum of 60% in aggregate from a recognized school board in India to be eligible for the program. To qualify for admission to national and state universities, candidates must score at least 75 per cent. To be accepted into any bachelor's degree program in the country, candidates must pass an entrance examination following the completion of the 10+2. Admissions to bachelor's programs in engineering/technology across the country are available to eligible candidates at several institutes. An entrance examination is a prerequisite for most universities when evaluating whether a student is eligible to attend. Several renowned institutes offer admissions to JEE Mains and JEE Advanced through this examination.
