About Foundry and Forge Technology

It is a branch of engineering that deals with foundry and a forge of metals. The difference between foundry and forge is that a foundry melts metals in specific furnaces and pours the molten metal into moulds to create items. Foundries are classified by the type of metal they deal with: iron foundry, brass foundry, and so on, whereas a forge, is a furnace or hearth where metals are heated before being hammered into shape. Recent Trends in Forging technology include the forging processes involving electrical upsetters, orbital forging presses, automatic horizontal forging presses and multi ram forging presses, transverse rolling etc.

What is Foundry and Forge Technology?

The goal of these courses is to generate quality people to meet the needs of industries, research and development organisations. This course was created to achieve these goals. Students gain a creative insight towards metallurgy and are becoming more innovative in all kinds of research-related work. This course deals with Energy conservation and pollution control, and the Finite element method. The modern casting Process is discussed with the students. Students are taught modelling and simulation, recent trends in Forging technology, computer-aided design, and so much more. This course includes Physical Metallurgy of casting and forging in these solid solutions, and theories of alloying are taught. Foundry tooling and methods, the technology of mould and core making, ferrous forging, and ferrous castings are other subjects taught under this course.

Eligibility and Career in Foundry and Forge Technology

The eligibility to study this course is a degree in automobile/  mechanical/ manufacturing/ production/ metallurgy engineering. This course is studied as a post-graduate course. The course can be completed in 2 years. During these two years, students are taught all the fundamentals and theories related to this field. Students graduating with this degree comes out to be confident in further research work and innovations. Career aspects in the field of foundry and forge are very significant. Companies like Creasant Foundry, TCS, Clayton, RKFL, Synergy Green and Tata Motors hire people with post-graduate degrees in this field. More than 90% of students studying this field of engineering get placed with great packages every year. This field has recently become known among students. They are gradually increasing year by year as it offers a wide range of career prospects.
