About Infrastructure Engineering and Technology

Infrastructure engineering and technology can be defined as the specified branch of civil engineering that deals with the concepts of infrastructure design and stability, the solidity of the construction, general safety, withstanding seismic forces, and construction failure. This is a viral branch of science and engineering that focuses on a multi-dimensional approach for the growing infrastructure and economic development and better society's living. This sector of technology fills the loopholes in the socio-techno-economic infrastructure system by evaluating the proper infrastructure requirements and proper planning with sustainable environment and economic development.

What is Infrastructure Engineering and Technology?

Engineering in infrastructure and technology is a full-time two-year program that aims to develop infrastructure with the help of advanced technology. It consists of different events or operations such as designing, planning, execution, development, and management of large apartments, commercial buildings, dams, bridges, highways, roads, towns, and transportation infrastructure. This course is designed to provide technical knowledge to students and allow them to develop the analytical and decision-making power needed to solve problems that emerge during the infrastructure development project. It also enables students to make a leading career in infrastructure provision, maintenance, and management. This program helps students with in-depth knowledge in foundations, designing, analysing, and applying techniques to solve modern-day civil infrastructure problems.

Moreover, this program emphasises application-based learning with dissertation or thesis work. Infrastructure engineering and technology courses include many topics such as hydraulics and sewerage system, flood management in rural & urban areas, management of water resources, asset management, intelligent transport system, infrastructure project management, site organisation, layout, cost estimation, technical communication with advanced computation knowledge. Interested candidates can also pursue further studies in this field like M.Phil., PhD, etc.

Eligibility and Career in Infrastructure Engineering and Technology

As mentioned earlier, infrastructure engineering and technology is a master's degree program with a specialisation in civil engineering, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It comprised a total of six semesters and two years. To take admission in this program, candidates are required to fulfil some eligibility criteria: the candidate must have passed graduation in engineering or technology or any relevant stream with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates who are in the final semester can also apply for this course. Candidates should have a valid GATE or any equivalent exam score to get selected for this course. Sponsored candidates should also have work experience of a minimum of two years in the relevant field along with the eligibility mentioned above criteria. As infrastructure development is the basic need of any developing country, several job opportunities are up for grabs. A skilled professional candidate in this field can get a job in both government and private sectors. There are a bunch of designations in companies that are fulfilled by infrastructure engineers, for instance, consulting engineers, building inspectors, infrastructure analysts, customer solution managers, infrastructure architects, etc. some of the sectors where candidates can easily get job opportunities after completion of the course such as real state societies, colleges & universities, industrial sector, housing, and development board and so on.
