About Mechanical Engg (Thermal Engg)

Thermal Engineering is the study of the application of temperatures in various environments, closed or open. This course can range from 4 or 2 years, depending on which level the student is applying for. In this course, the teachings range from theoretical, workshops, industrial training, and some project work. In today's world, we face many problems in meeting the energy needs of an ever-growing population, the lack of cleanliness of fossil fuels, the expensive nature of sustainable energy fuels. It becomes essential for thermal engineers to tackle world issues and attempt to solve them in this situation. This makes this field a massive hotbed for research and funding, making the experts in it in huge demand. Students interested in the power sector, academic competency, heat exchangers, etc., should opt for this course.

What is Mechanical Engg (Thermal Engg)?

Students will be taught everything from fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, etc. Students also learn about Machine Drawing, Thermal Science, Metrology, Quality Assurance, Industrial Training, Production Technology, etc. At present, this field is facing various challenges inhibiting its further growth. For example, there is currently a need for hybrid cooling so that technology can be developed. Thermal Cooling solutions for 5G base stations are another major challenge for this field, along with various other requirements for AI. Students who take part in this field are groomed to be able to solve these problems. This course also teaches students other mechanical skills, like technical skills, which form the core of this course. Interpersonal skills are developed because students usually work with various teams to complete projects in this sector. This also means that communication skills are essential in this field so that employees can communicate information effectively. Working under stress is also very important. Manufacturing Processes, Electrical Technology, Fundamentals of Computing are taught at the start of the course. Electronic Devices, Introduction to Programming, Engineering Mechanics are trained in the following semesters. The next part of this course is Electrical Machines, Numerical Analysis and Statistical Techniques, Production Technology, Material Science, and Metallurgy. The system is completed with metal forming, machine tools, thermal design.

Eligibility and Career in Mechanical Engg (Thermal Engg)

This course is four-year, and candidates in this field should have passed 10+2 level with physics, chemistry, and maths as their main subjects.  M tech in this field is of a two-year duration.  Students who achieve an aggregate of 55% in any areas like Mechanical, Automobile, or Aeronautical, or a comparable lot can enroll in this course.  Students can get a job in this field in various positions such as Project Engineer, Safety Engineer, Lecturer, Maintenance engineer, a thermography design engineer in the following areas - Nuclear Energy Industry, Pollution Control Agencies, Space Research, Oil industry, Thermal Power Stations, etc.
