Engineering in Cement technology is a course that aims to provide students with the knowledge required for the efficient production of cement.

ENGINEERING IN CEMENT TECHNOLOGY

Cement, as you would know, is a material widely applied for construction purposes. Therefore, learning of Cement technology would involve learning its properties and the production method, particularly the use of high temperatures and precipitation. While seemingly simple, it includes many small processes such as breaking down raw materials and mixing them, controlled heating increasing the durability of cement etc. Thus engineers in this field are in huge demand.

This field is in high demand since construction projects are evergreen and are unlikely to stop ever. The primary component of most construction projects today is cement, and so, efficient production is significant. Construction activity is expected to rise in future, and so will the need for better quality and cheaper glue; Moreover, as the world moves towards more efficient and environmentally conscious modes of production, we expect this field to be in much higher demand than it is today.

WHAT IS ENGINEERING IN CEMENT TECHNOLOGY?

Engineering in Cement technology is a course that aims to provide students with the knowledge required for the efficient production of cement and the new advancements in the process that reduce environmental pollution arising out of it and reduce the generation of waste. The course aims to study the components that make-up cement in its most refined form. Students will be taught about the proper application of heat in a controlled manner, which results in cement clinker production from the delicate components. From here, the last stages of the production of cement is taught. Students generally need to understand the quality of the product to ascertain whether it's suitable for the building material, which is without a doubt an essential task. This helps in the development of their quality assessment skills.

The course equips the students with avid knowledge of the raw materials required, the heating process, and cement production in the usable construction form. They will also be taught about the regulations set by the govt in this industry. As said, it implies that chemistry and mathematics will be the prominent subjects for the course. Mineralogy, and geology along with design, will also be necessary. Other than the established production methods, the system will be imparting the students with details about the future of this technology, such as energy efficiency for the production, the alternative resources that can be used for producing cement, changes in layout and design of the plant.

The students can expect the following parts of the curriculum, fluid dynamics, introduction to cement manufacturing, electrical processes used in manufacture, understanding the raw materials making the resources etc.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER PROSPECTS IN CEMENT TECHNOLOGY

A diploma in cement technology involves clearing class 10th boards with a minimum of 50% aggregate. It typically lasts for three years. On the other hand, a Btech in cement technology lasts four years and requires a candidate to have cleared out the Class 13 exam with a 45% aggregate. Completion of PCM at the +2 level is a must.  The Career prospects involved are present in the Research and development, as chief engineers in the construction industry and technical heads in the production process. Those with diplomas are best suited for supervisory levels.
