ABOUT CERAMIC DESIGN AND ENGINEERING

Ceramics are objects made using glass, clay, and porcelain through specialized processes, primarily through heat. Ceramic Design, therefore, is the process of using these processes to give it a preferred design to increase its aesthetic value. The course deals with imparting this knowledge among the students. To a layperson, this course and ceramics, in general, may appear outdated. However, these ceramics are in huge demand in today's time, and the market seems to keep increasing. This is due to the mysterious appeal of these ceramics. Since most of these ceramics are handmade, they are highly personalized instead of mass-produced articles, which are uniform and largely detached from the customer. Moreover, as a human appreciation of art will be present even in the future, we can expect this field to be evergreen.

WHAT IS CERAMIC DESIGN ENGINEERING?

This course is very beneficial as it helps develop students' creativity, innovation, and understanding of technology. As said previously, the ceramic design consists of the specifications set aside. A ceramic object is created that aims to increase its aesthetic value and durability. The process consists of crystallizing the raw materials required for the production of these ceramics. These are then used for creating new chemical compounds that will help in increased durability. The final steps consist of making designs on the article. All the processes required in this production method is taught in this course. This course also introduces the students to the different ways the production is done, and the various ceramics prepared.

This course equips the students with creativity and uniqueness by encouraging them to create their designs for prospective products. It also helps develop the quality assessment skills of students by allowing them to review made articles and answer surveys or samples. Students need to be able to communicate their ideas and present their designs produced. So it will help in improving their communication as well as presentation skills. Finally, it is expected to develop the content knowledge of students by providing them with model-based learning. 

Students can expect the following curriculum, which includes but is not limited to maths, thermodynamics, introduction to ceramics as well as primary production methods. Students will also be taught heat transfer, snippets of electrical engineering, structure and properties of ceramic particles. The last parts of the course will learn about nanotechnology, pollution control, and plant or equipment design.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER CERAMIC DESIGN ENGINEERING

Students need to have passed out Class 10+2 level with physics, chemistry and maths as core subjects. Students can opt for entrance exams to be secured into the university seats.  BTech in this field lasts from 8 months to 4 yrs.

After graduating, students can work in many positions such as ceramic and glass designer, ceramicist, ceramic engineer, ceramic artist and assistant professor for this course. These are highly valued positions that can provide a student with high pay and security. The top companies hiring in these positions are Good Earth, Saint Cobain, AGC, Titan, Miller Glass.
