The course is one of a kind in India offered by a very few institutes as it is a degree course which trains the students to handle a sugar complex in totality. The course curriculum is a blend of sugar, alcohol and co-generation.

Sugar & Alcohol Technology

The objective of the Sugar Technology is to impart education on sugar technology and to extend scientific guidance to sugar mills for the overall improvement of the technical performance. The course of Sugar & Alcohol Technology is divided into two subsections of Sugar Technology and Alcohol Technology. The targeted areas are controlling sugar losses in the manufacturing process, improvement in the quality of the final product at a reduced cost. The section of Alcohol Technology aims to help distillery industry in their efforts to achieve the economic development (with minimum use of resources and energy input) by assisting them in building their capacity and capability through trained manpower and by way of advancement, development and adoption of better technology in its area of focus viz. fermentation, distillation & integrated effluent treatment systems.

How to Join

One who wants to join Sugar & Alcohol Technology should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

The job profiles a graduate can opt for after completing the education in Sugar & Alcohol Technology include that of Sugar and Brewing Engineers, Consultants, Researchers, Supervisors, Quality Analysts and so on. Sugar technologists can find jobs in sugar factories, non--alcoholic and alcoholic beverage production companies, sugar research laboratories and other food processing units.
