Pharmaceutical Technology degree concentrates upon the field of medicines, such as their preparation, dosages, effects etc. The course covers not only the preparation of such items but also the construction and requirements of the industrial units in which medicines are developed and produced. It is, therefore, a field of vital importance to society and has been gaining popularity in recent years.

Pharmaceutical Technology

Pharmaceutical Technology is a subsidiary of the broader field of Chemical Engineering. It focuses primarily on chemical applications in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals. The construction of industrial plants for the production of medicines is also a field of study under this course. Students are introduced and exposed to various chemical systems and applications, in order to aid the development of future technology for this field, while enhancing current standards.

How to Join

One who wants to join Pharmaceutical Technology should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

With a degree in Pharmaceutical Technology, a number of career prospects are available. While usually starting out with a salary of around 25,000 monthly, this may grow substantially with increased experience in the industry. Possible jobs include working with the Government of India.
