Engineering Physics is introduced to make the students understand and make use of all the concepts and practical applications of physics. In brief, the course imparts necessary knowledge on engineering including a specialization in physics and applied physics. Students who are having an interest in physics and want to learn it through an engineering perspective can opt for this course.

The course is all about the developments and research in the field of physics and concepts of high technology and instrumentation. Engineering physics is the same as any other engineering course, providing a platform to the students to learn the core courses offered to all engineering students to develop the necessary skills and aptitude to become an engineer. Along with this, the conceptual and theoretical aspects of physics as well.

Engineering Physics

The course is a combination of theoretical concepts and applications of it in physics. The course is designed in a way that the students are offered with mandatory electives and also required to undergo a training program or an internship outside the college campus. As of now, the course is offered by few IITs in the country and so focusing more on a vigorous study of concepts like semiconductor devices, electromagnetic, thermodynamics, etc.

The course integrates various fields of engineering such as mechanical, electrical, civil and electronics engineering which includes the applications of physics. The curriculum of the course is designed to deal with various concepts of physics which are applied in real life such as mechanics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of solids, thermodynamics, electromagnetic, electrostatics, physics of semiconductors etc.

How to Join

One who wants to join Engineering Physics should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects of Engineering Physics Graduates

The major recruiters of Engineering Physics graduates are the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Microsft, Applied Research International and National Physical Laboratory and many other research institutes in India and abroad. Students who are interested in further studies have the option to in pursuing Masters and PhD in Physics from any reputed institution in India.
