Ceramic Technology is a new and trending course in the field of engineering which deals with the study, design, properties, manufacturing, designing, application and uses of various commercial ceramic materials. The course includes applications of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics equally from high school. The course is perfect for students who are creative and interested in the study of the process of manufacturing objects from inorganic and non-metallic materials.

Ceramic Technology

The course is a blend of art and technology which mainly focuses on research and development of ceramic materials, planing and developing various processing systems, processing methodologies etc. The course curriculum includes in-depth knowledge on the process of designs and development of various applications like glass, porcelain, cement, refractors, insulators, composite materials, enamels, cement, etc.

This field of engineering is comparatively a new branch in engineering which are being offered in top institutes in India. Some of them are Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Varanasi, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, Anna University, University of Calcutta, Rajasthan Technical University etc.

How to Join

One who wants to join Signal Processing should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

Career opportunities have been increased with this emerging field both in the public and private sector for fresh out graduates in India. Most of the graduates are being hired as Ceramic Technologists who deals with the complex chemical process of producing materials. Some others are hired as Ceramic designers who involves in the process of creation of materials using sand, clay and basic ceramic materials termed as raw materials in the process.

Medicine. Mining, aerospace, food and chemical industry, electronics, transmission electricity, refinery etc. are some of the popular fields which require the service of qualified Ceramic Technology engineering from around the world. They are hired to manufacturing units, research and testing, cutting tool and kitchenware industry etc. Apart from this, a Ceramic Engineer can find job openings in hospitals and research laboratories across India
