About Digital Electronics

Digital electronics is a branch of electronics that deals with the study and engineering of digital signals and electronic devices that use these digital signals. Only two conditions are possible in this digital format: 0 (zero) known as low logic and 1 (one) known as high logic. Digital electronics is the basic foundation of recent computers and digital communications. It is complex digital logic with millions of gates on a single integrated circuit known as a microprocessor. These circuits will be able to do millions of operations in a second. Digital electronics are essential in today's life as digital circuits can transmit signals without degradation due to noise compared to analogue circuits. The latest trends in digital electronics include the maturation of Artificial intelligence/Machine Language, widespread integration and use of Augmented and Virtual Reality devices, the development of wearable electronics, and the shrinking of microchips in size year by year.

What is Digital Electronics?

The course aims to teach students the fundamentals of digital design and logic. We start from the basics of different number base systems to complex logic elements and derive logical expressions from optimizing a circuit design further. The course teaches students to assess different logic designs and designs and build them independently given other frameworks. The primary goal is to organize students for a successful professional career in digital electronics. By the end of the course, students will implement synchronous state machines and test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic probes, and pulsars, to implement systematic fault-finding techniques. The course includes the Base number system and conversions topics, Digital Logic gates, Boolean Algebra and its Principles, Boolean Expression simplification, Karnaugh Maps, and the complex topics of Decoders and Encoders, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers, Adders, Subtractors, and Sequential circuits.

Eligibility and Career in Digital Electronics

This course is a part of electronics, and it is included in degrees such as computer and electrical engineering. Candidates who have passed 12th grade with mathematics and science as compulsory subjects can take up this course for Bachelor's, but it also depends on the institutes' entrance exams. Candidates who have completed the undergraduate programs in hardware and networking or any other related field can apply for postgrad/Masters. The requirement varies from one institution to another with their exams and interview rounds. The Bachelor's lasts for four years whereas the Master's is for two years. There are multiple job prospects such as Communications Engineer, Electronic Engineer, Electronic Communications Technician in major corporations and Government institutions. Due to the ever-growing demand for newer technology, PhD prospects are high, and digital electronics is the basis of all digital communications. Some topics with bright scope include Robotics, Control Systems, Sustainable Energy Intake and Power Systems, Optics and Photonics, Networking and Image Processing and much more.
