Energy Engineering is a relatively new course in the field of technology. Employment opportunities for graduates are available in renewable energy production plants or solar companies. The candidates are required to study subjects such as material science for energy and energy management. Energy engineering course allows the industry professionals as well as students to acquire the techniques and skills needed for the application of energy management.

Energy Engineering

Energy Engineering is an undergraduate program that requires four years for completion. Energy engineering or energy systems engineering is a wide field of engineering and technology that deals with energy efficiency, energy services, facility management, plant engineering, environmental compliance and alternative energy technology.

The course offers proper guidance to candidates regarding energy production and management. It includes a rigorous study of subjects such as energy systems modelling and analysis, material science for energy and electrochemistry etc. Bachelor of Technology in Renewable Energy is a course that is similar to this one.

How to Join

One who wants to join Energy engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

Energy engineers work on the design and researcher as well as construction of power generation plants. And it may involve drilling for gas and oil. Engineers are needed for research and for adopting new technology in the design, installation along with maintenance of energy sources and energy management.
