This sector is based on thermodynamics, mechanics, material science, press tools, forging dies, jigs and fixtures, and plastic engineering. These are some core concepts with computer-aided manufacturing and computer integrated manufacturing used by tool and die engineers to design, execute, analyze, and maintain plant, machinery, and mechanical equipment.

What Mechanical Engineering (Tool & Die)?

Engineering in mechanical tools and die is a full-time three-year program that is designed to provide quality-based education and training service in the tool and die making sector. The program focuses on creating skilled professionals who have sound knowledge of designing and developing tools and die-making industry projects. Students explore different techniques to improve productivity and management of projects during the program, such as management planning tool (MP), QC tools, TQM concepts, and SQC tools. Students learn to operate different traditional and advanced machine tools and equipment used to produce die and mold parts and help prepare tool drawing with tolerance. Various topics are covered in-depth during this course, such as material properties and strength, engineering meteorology, computer-aided machine and tool, manufacturing technology, mechanical material testing, engineering materials and metallurgy, jigs and fixtures, hydraulics and pneumatics, and forging die, die casting, and die management. Industrial engineering management, tool design, and drawing, plastic molding technology with computer-aided design & manufacturing are taught those help engineers in manufacturing and quality control of dies and tools. After completing the course, students will fulfill the industry's requirements with a good team spirit and effective solutions. Students are trained to become skilled technicians who can adopt updated technologies and environmental norms to handle various advanced automated machine tools.

Eligibility and Career in Mechanical Engineering (Tool & Die)

As mentioned above, mechanical engineering in tools and die is a full-time graduation program of three years approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Interested candidates must have passed secondary education with a minimum of 35% marks from a recognized board. The admission process is based on the joint entrance test, or AIE CET entrance examination result. After graduation, candidates can pursue higher education in this field. Candidates who want to get a job they can have many opportunities in both government and private sector. A mechanical tool and die engineer can be employed as an automation engineer, senior design engineer, instrumentation engineer, research and development engineer, powertrain engineer, and mechanical engineer. Although the salary package depends upon various factors such as company, location, skills, etc., an average salary of 25K-30K can be expected in starting years of service.
