Students who are interested in the principles of signal processing and communications, in scientific and technological terms are good to opt this course. Those who wish to develop specialist knowledge and skills relevant to the technology and communication industry are also suitable for this course. The course offers advanced study in an academic and industrial environment and research opportunities as well.

The program is aimed at making the students able to design and develop new features for the industrial world in telecommunications, aerospace, audio, sensors and other relevant areas.

Signal Processing

The program essentially includes advanced study and interpretation on the concepts of manipulation of signals used in various systems. The course curriculum is designed to equip the students with a strong theoretical background on the subject while introducing them to the practical applications as well. Signal Processing is a specialized branch in Electrical and Communication Engineering which has been introduced to provide specialization in different types of signals.

The program includes an advanced study on the following areas signal processing, signal processing applications in communication, digital signal processors, image processing, biomedical signal processing, speech and audio processing, etc. The course offers application-based aspects of signal processing ranging from wired and wireless communication, multimedia processing, medical diagnoses and earthquake prediction.

How to Join

One who wants to join Signal Processing should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 60-75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

This area of engineering specialization is an emerging field Electronics and Communication Engineering, having a large number of career options from around the world. The electronics and communication sector is growing rapidly, increasing necessity thereby creating a large number of job opportunities. BHEL, NTPC, BSNL, HCL Technologies, WIPRO, Infosys, etc. are some of the top recruiters of Signal Processing Engineers in India. Successful graduates can also go for further studies in the discipline such as PhD, MPhil and research studies.
