As the name suggests, Marine Engineering deals with everything associated with marine which needs the applications of engineering. It includes training in techniques and technologies used in the construction and maintenance of harbours, ships and oil platforms. The course mainly deals with the system and machinery of ships and other marine vessels and vehicles.

The course equips the students with knowledge on control engineering, naval architecture, hydraulics, turbine, ship design and process engineering among various other concepts as well.

How to Join

One who wants to join Marine Engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top college or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Marine Engineering courses are provided by the AICTE and from the Ministry of Shipping as well. Institutions approved by the Directorate of Shipping are providing training in Marine Engineering and several courses related to marine.
