About Modern Communication Engineering

Engineering is the application of scientific principles to the design and construction of machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, roads, vehicles, and buildings. An application of scientific principles to the development or construction of systems, machines, and processes, or to the installation or operation while taking full cognizance of their design. To predict their behaviour under specific operating conditions, all in terms of intended function, the economics of the process, and the safety of life and property. The engineering discipline encompasses a wide range of more specialized engineering fields, each focusing on a particular area of applied mathematics, applied science, or application type. An integrated communications system consists of individual telecommunications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and terminal equipment that can interrelate and interoperate to create an integrated whole. A communications system consists of components that serve a common purpose, are technically compatible, use standard procedures, respond to controls, and unionize. The act of communicating (e.g., sports broadcasts, mass media, journalism, etc.) is referred to as telecommunication. Communicating involves the exchange of signals and semiotic rules that ensure mutually understood meanings between two entities or groups.

What is Modern Communication Engineering? 

Communication engineering is a branch of engineering that focuses on electrical and computer engineering to enhance and support telecommunication systems. Work ranges from designing basic circuits to developing strategic mass production systems. As a telecommunication engineer, one of your responsibilities would be designing and supervising the installation of telecommunications equipment and facilities, such as complex electronic switching systems, plain old telephone lines, fibre optic cabling, IP networks, and microwave transmission systems. Broadcast engineering overlaps with modern communications engineering, and communications engineering combines electronic engineering, civil engineering, and systems engineering into one discipline. Telecom engineers provide high-speed data transmission services. To design telecom network infrastructure, they use various equipment and transport media; twisted pairs, coaxial cables, and optical fibres are the most common media used by wired telecommunications. Telecom engineers also provide wireless communication and information transfer solutions, such as wireless telephony services, radio and satellite communications, internet, Wi-Fi, and broadband technologies.

Eligibility and Career in Modern Communication Engineering

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication (B. Tech/ B.E./ equivalent) from a recognized institution. The qualifying examination must have yielded a minimum aggregate score of 55 percent. Optical communications refer to any form of telecommunication that utilizes light as the transmission medium. An optical communication system consists of a transmitter that encodes a message into an optical signal, a communication channel that transmits the movement, and a receiver that interprets the signal received from the transmitter. In fibre-optic communication systems, light is sent through an optical fibre to share information from one place to another. To transmit data, the light is modulated. A modulated carrier signal is impressed on power wires in power line communication systems. Based on the transmission characteristics of the power wiring, different types of powerline communications rely on other frequency bands. The power wiring system was initially designed to transmit AC power, and it has only a limited capability for carrying higher frequencies. The propagation problem limits each type of power line communication.
