There are plenty of careers which had made become our study subjects which led to the development of many science-based careers and Geomatics is one of them. Geospatial science is an academic field that includes subjects such as surveying, geographic information systems, hydrography and cartography. Spacial science is the study that deals with the measurement, management, analysis and display of spatial information stating our Earth, its physical features and environment.

Geomatics and Surveying Engineering

Geomatics fuses together surveying and mapping with technologies like the Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and various satellite image analyses.

Geomatics is the field that incorporates many others such as land surveying engineering with the aspects of spatial data management ranging from data science and cartography to geography. As many technological advancements have happened to digital processing in surveying and the societies become more complex, the information with spatial position and data becomes more critical in decision making. Therefore, Geomatics Engineering can be made use of in a wide variety of information gathering activities and applications.

How to Join

One who wants to join Geomatics and Surveying Engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 60-75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects of Geomatics Engineers

As Spatial data processing and surveying have got advanced with the most precise systems available now, it is being used in many fields to gather information. A Geomatics Engineer’s duty is to design, develop and operate systems for collecting and analyzing the data collected from the spatial information about the land, ocean, natural resources and manmade features.
