About Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

This course is designed to educate students about everything from the water system, hydrology, water designing, and various subjects like water quality, groundwater, etc. As the name suggests, this course is oriented towards agricultural engineering. This course will provide fundamental information about soil-water-plant relationships, soil physics, etc. This will help a student understand waterlogging and salinity. Students who have good communication and organizational skills, are interested in learning about irrigation and drainage, and have a good intellect should apply for this course. This course is essential for creating cheap, efficient and good quality irrigation systems used in agricultural fields and industrial parks. It is essential because it helps improve irrigation techniques for the future and overall improvement of the agricultural fields highly.

What is Irrigation and Drainage Engineering?

This course aims to give the students knowledge in present technology in irrigation and drainage engineering for agriculture, industrial and recreational parks. Students of this field can also help develop farm equipment by learning about their design and development of this equipment. The main aim of this course is the integration of agriculture and technology, which is expected to make farming in India much more efficient than the present. For this, the students are prepared so they can handle the challenges of this field. This course will equip the students with various skills that they will need in their careers, such as Critical Thinking- This is important so that an engineer can analyze the equipment, the alternatives and decide on the installation; Speaking skills- conveying to the team and the superiors about the project, it’s results and suggestions; time management- This is important since most of the projects will be time-bound and based on efficiency; Decision Making- Deciding on the correct course of action, in this field is critical since even tiny mistakes can cause a tremendous amount of loss. The curriculum for this course is as follows: Engineering Mathematics, Programming, Hydrology, Soil Water Plant relationship, Hydrology, Irrigation Management, Industrial System Design. Students will also learn about Watershed Development, Soil Salinity, Ground Water Development, Crop Engineering, Irrigation Management etc. By the end of this course, students will be thoroughly prepared for their careers with relevant knowledge and skills.
