Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate degree program that mainly deals with the fundamentals of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Most of the engineering colleges in India offer Chemical engineering courses while some of them are considered good for the course alone.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering course includes the application of Chemistry and Physics along with Mathematics in order to make use and combine raw materials, chemicals into useful and valuable goods. Some important topics in the chemical engineering courses are chemical reactions, material science, energy, chemical technology, biochemistry, molecular chemistry, etc.

As with any engineering course, many subjects in the course requires practical training sessions for better understanding. Workshops and industrial training is an integral part of the chemical engineering course. If you are having a strong background in Chemistry and Mathematics, then chemical engineering is the best choice for a bright career for you in future.

How to Join

One who wants to join BTech Mechanical engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospect of Chemical Engineer

The basic job of a chemical engineer is to use the best resources to find the most convenient method to make a product. They help in translating different processes done in the lab to the most practical, industrial process to help the production of plastic, medicines, detergents, fuels, etc. They are also equipped to contribute to design a production plant in a way to increase production and decrease pollution, wastage of war materials, etc.

Many qualified Chemical Engineers are hired by companies that deal with the manufacturing of chemicals and their products. There are also many opportunities in the field of nuclear energy, medicine, food processing, material science and the development of new sources of energy. One can also choose for serving in organisations that engage research, environmental studies, data processing, market analysis sectors as well.
