Microwave and millimetre engineering is a branch of engineering and science that deals with the study and concepts of advanced multimode dielectric resonator filters, R.F. transceivers with the integration of radiating and filtering functions, development of antennae subsystems, and investigation of new classes of directional filters. It can also be referred to as the area that involves designing, modelling, developing, and executing multilayer circuit techniques such as filters, antennae, and substrate integrated waveguides in low-temperature co-fired ceramic (L.T.C.C.) technology. Microwave and millimetre technology plays a crucial role in developing a wide range of millimetre-wave communication and sensing applications that are majorly used in the healthcare and robotics sector.

What is Microwave and Millimeter Engineering?

Engineering in microwave and millimetres is a two-year program framed with the primary objective to educate young professionals and conduct research in the broader spectrum of organization and management. Under this program, students explore different sub-branches related to this sector, such as Microwave and Millimeter Wave Tubes, Dielectric Horn and Dielectric Resonator Antennas, Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Antennas, M.I.C. Passive Devices, Remote Sensing, Biological Effects and Medical Applications of Microwaves, and PBG Structures and Meta-materials. This is a comprehensive course that emphasizes both theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject. This course gives the student in-depth knowledge of microwave and its source, communication techniques, and millimetre-wave. As the course is comprehensive, so it covers a wide range of topics such as the functionality of EHF, wireless communication, signal propagation, L.T.C.C. system integration, micro machine components, 3D microfabrication techniques, semiconductor, MEMS, electromagnetic engineering, microwave circuits, and system, antennae theory, satellite communication, with analytical and computational techniques.

Eligibility and Career in Microwave and Millimeter Engineering

As mentioned above, microwave and millimetre engineering is a full-time post-graduation program of two years approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.), New Delhi. To pursue this course, students must fulfil some criteria, such as completing their bachelor's program with at least 60% marks in the engineering or technology sector or any relevant field. Students should have a qualified GATE with a valid score to take admission to prestigious universities in India. After completing the course, students will be able to monitor the different functions of the machine and solve machine-related issues. Engineers in this field can become the system or network engineers as they have to be maintaining different engineering apparatus and plan the layout of the network and detect faulty nodes in the network system.

Candidates may be employed in various sectors such as Posts and Telegraph Departments, Academic Institutions, Research & Development Areas, Hardware Manufacturing Companies, Indian Telephone Industries, A.I.R., Power Sector, Bharat Electronics Limited, Telecommunication Companies, D.R.D.O., Home Appliance and VLSI Design, Television Industry and many more.
