Mechanical engineering is referred to as the oldest branch of engineering and hence called the mother branch. One of the main features of mechanical engineering is the application base of the field of study is extremely broad and diverse. Almost all the inventions that happened before, after and in the modern era are the direct contributions of applications of mechanics.

Mechanical Engineering

A mechanical engineer deals with the concept of mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, etc. these concepts are applied in designing cutting edge manufacturing units, types vehicles, aircraft, aerospace parts and a majority of industrial machinery. They also contribute a fair part in the development of various engines, heating and cooling systems, and other simple and complex machinery. They not only design but are responsible for testing, maintaining and manufacturing it.

The program endows the students with basic knowledge on how heavy tools and machinery work. They will be able to design everything from new batteries, athletic equipment to medical devices and from personal computers, air conditioners to engines and power plants.

How to Join

One who wants to join BTech Mechanical engineering in top 10 mechanical engineering colleges in India should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top college or universities in India.

Most of the mechanical engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Career Prospect of Mechanical Engineers

Mechanical engineers are needed in every field of society. Various public and private sector companies including automobiles, chemical, electronics, steel plants, oil exploration and refining, technical wings of armed forces, space research organization and many other fields are in need of mechanical engineers every year.

A mechanical engineering student will be getting training in the manufacturing process, manufacturing systems, systems engineering, IT, Networks and basic shop floor communications. These will help in pursuing a career with the field he/she likes. The most common sector of industries in which mechanical engineering can get a job are manufacturing industries, maintenance work, automobile manufacturing and maintenance industries, refrigeration industries.

Apart from this all, the entry into this career path requires you to possess certain basic traits. You must have a penchant for mechanical components and the working process of it. You must also have basic analytical skills, logical reasoning and problem-solving in mind to excel in this career.
