About Mechanical (Design Engineering)

Mechanical design engineering is a specified branch of mechanical engineering that deals with all operations of mechanical systems by applying engineering principles, science, and material science. Mechanical design engineering aims at designing various parts, components, and products related to machine systems. It can be referred to as the process of converting energy into mechanical forms as per the need of human beings.

What is Mechanical (Design Engineering)?

Engineering in mechanical designing is a master's degree program of two years that focuses on solving problems that arise during the development, designing, planning, and execution of machine systems. This program is designed to create skilled and creative design engineers who can apply real-time design, development, and simulation solutions. It helps students to explore new areas related to develop engineering and allied sciences. Candidates who pursue this course will be skillful in designing, principles of engineering, updated computational tools, and project management, which is essential to lead engineering and functions of the organization. To become an excellent engineer in this field candidate must have some skills such as STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), teamwork, vital analytical skill, excellent communication skill, management and leadership skill, and willingness to learn. Students also profoundly exposed some of the fields related to design engineerings, such as advanced robotics, Nanomechanics, Nanotribology, and Vibroacoustics.

Additionally, this program covers various topics such as continuum mechanics, analytical dynamics, CAD and finite element analysis, design and optimization, design with advanced materials, vibration and noise, automotive design, robotics, tribological system design, Biomechanics of trauma and automotive structure,  Dynamics of Multibody Systems, lubrication, Plant Equipment Design, and Rotor Dynamics. Students also learn different design types for the manufacturing sector, harnessing noise and vibration, creating precision machines, mechatronics machine design, and designing machine tools for efficient use. In the last semester, students also do the dissertation work to apply their acquired knowledge to solve real-time problems. Interested candidates can also pursue further studies in this field like Ph.D., MPhil, and research. After completing the course, students will be able to design machine elements of complicated and composite geometry using FEM and integrate the mechanical system with an electrical/electronic system for efficient development.

Eligibility and Career in Mechanical (Design Engineering)

As mentioned above, mechanical design engineering is a full-time post-graduation course approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Candidates who are willing to take admission in this master's program must have completed their bachelor's degree in engineering or science or any equivalent field with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates with valid GATE scores are preferable for admission b universities. A top-notch and trained professional in this field has multiple job options in various sectors such as computer integrated manufacturing systems, designing machine components, designing machine tools, and designing a subsystem for automotive engineering. Postgraduate candidates in this field can apply as machine engineers, service engineers, instructional designers, etc. Jobseekers can expect an average salary from 5-8 LPA in starting.
