Industrial power control and drives used in various applications in factory floors as an important part of the next generation for automation. It uses electric drives to control power consumption, speed and accuracy of motor and electric equipment. An electric motor in an industrial drive can use a range of other techniques like converting direct current to alternate current motors. Industrial drives combine a suitable engine with a drive to control power stimulation. Industrial power control and drives is a discipline dealing with supply control theory to design different equipment with a desirable behaviour in the control environment. This branch deals with implementing the control system in the power sector, which is derived by mathematical modelling in diverse ranges.

What is Industrial Power Control and Drives?

This branch deals with control system implementation by mathematical modelling systems. In this branch, students learn about research and challenges that address fundamental and engineering challenges occurring in electric power and energy systems. In this branch, students were taught about control methods and decision-making tools for the energy system, environmental system, defences system, and telecommunications.  Students learn about the control, planning and operation of power grids and smart grid stores to control and optimize power consumption in wide areas. The student also learns about the integration of large renewable energy sources into the power grid system. In this branch, the student also learns about industrial drive applications and uses them to enhance their acceleration. Drives are the backbone of the global and grid system industry. Students were taught about drives capacity to control ramp up and ramp down of motors. Students also learn about the working principle of drives, how they decrease workload and stress on motor control system applications. This branch also let to know about the use of power drives in the different natural fields to tenant the energy into electrical networks using other technology. Students also learn about hybrid working technology of power drives in which different drives are combined for conventional energy sources and energy storage to maintain total energy level. Students also learn about the operating mechanism of other drives, motors, converters to generate power in large industries. Students also learn about all safety measures and communication skills to cope with future problems in their careers. The student was also taught about all possible outcomes of poor control and use of drives in the energy aspect related to environment management and legal policies.

Eligibility and Career in Industrial Power Control and Drives

As mentioned above, this course is a growing field and has enormous growth potential in mid to long perspectives. There are several career paths one can choose after socialization in this stream. And also, job openings and demands are also increasing day by day.  Like all courses, this course requires a 10+2 education from a reputed and recognized college or school. Several postgraduates and masters programs are also available in this field. The undergraduate course lasts for 2-4 years, and post-graduation lasts for 1-3 years.
