Biomedical engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the study, design and manufacturing of unit processes which includes medical equipment, devices and software to bring together the application of engineering to solve clinical problems. This field of engineering is identified as the of the important engineering branches deals with the study of engineering principles. These principles are combined with the applications of medical sciences to streamline the healthcare services in the country.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is a fascinating multidisciplinary area of study that makes use of the application of engineering techniques in order to assist the doctors and physicians in the healthcare sector. The area equips the students to use the traditional engineering theory and techniques to analyze and solve problems in biology and medicine providing an overall enhancement and innovative edge to the healthcare and hospitality sector.

The course curriculum includes clinical engineering, tissue and genetic engineering, biomechanics, medical imaging, rehabilitation engineering, system physiology, bio-mechanics, bio-materials etc.

How to Join

One who wants to join BTech Biomedical engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top college or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Career Prospect of Biomedical Engineers

Biomedical engineering is one of the tough career options and is preferred by talented and aspiring individuals in engineering and medical field. Yet there are enormous career opportunities are available in this field of engineering. Key responsibilities of biomedical engineering include designing equipment as artificial human organs, machines which can diagnose medical problems and the replacements of various human body parts. They are required to work in coordination with life scientists, chemists and medical scientists in order to conduct research to find out the engineering aspects and application on the biological systems of humans and animals.

Biomedical engineers are responsible for the evaluation of the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of all the biomedical equipment which perform various medical activities. They are required in installation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of these devices and equipments with technical support. Biomedical engineers are also involved in designing electrical circuits, software to run the devices or computer simulations in order to test any new medical practices or therapies.
